Presidency Denies Allegation Of Last Minute Looting

The Presidency on Monday denied allegations of last minute looting, rushed privatization and hurried recruitment into federal public service as alleged by the All Progressives Congress, APC.

It described as “most unfortunate and uncharitable, the statement credited to Lai Mohammed, spokesman of the APC that the outgoing Jonathan administration was trying to “tie the hands” of the incoming government of Muhammadu Buhari, the President-elect.

In a statement signed by Reuben Abati, Special Adviser to President Jonathan on Media and Publicity, the presidency explained that by taking some actions, the current administration was only discharging its constitutional responsibilities.

Abati who said the Jonathan government is doing its best to ensure a smooth and peaceful handover of power to the President-elect, said that “Without any prejudice whatsoever to the freedom of the incoming administration to do as it pleases, within the confines of extant laws when it assumes office, the Jonathan Administration will continue to discharge its responsibility to govern until May 29, 2015.”

On the issues of alleged rushed privatization and hurried recruitment, Abati said the “incoming administration will be perfectly within its rights to review all actions of the present government as it may deem fit.”
