Tension In Nassarawa

There is tension in Nassarawa state as the governorship and House of assembly elections are underway in the state. In some polling units at Angwan Yansanda PU, Giyam Ward, polling officers were having problems using the card reader. The consequence is that accreditation in some of the affected polling units is impeded. There are fears, therefore that tempers may rise, because of the usual conflicts between the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and the All Progressives Congress, APC. The contest would be appreciated when you consider that the though the governor is a member of the APC, having been elected on the platform of the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, then founded by President-elect Mohammadu Buhari, but now a component of the APC. Prior to the merger that produced the APC, Governor Tanko Al-Makura was the only state chief executive produced by Buhari’s party, from the 2011 general elections. The governor had been threatened with removal by the PDP-controlled state legislature.

The APC is expected to give a good fight for the governorship seat, just as the PDP would be routing for the seat too. There is however, a third force in the candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA. Right now Al-Makura is still being expected to turn up for accreditation at his Lungu Wambai polling unit where he voted during the Presidential polls.
