Rufus Akeju, Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC,Oyo State has stressed the need for voters to stay behind and have the votes counted in their presence during the March 28 Presidential elections.
“This thing is done once in four years.So it is our duty to ensure our votes count,” Akeju said. The commissioner who expressed assurance on the safety of the electorates added that the Commission is fully ready for the election.
“Our officials will be at the voting point by 7:30 am tomorrow. We have made solid arrangements for that. The materials are already very close to the PU.”
He said it is the hired commercial drivers that usually disappoint INEC before, causing the officials to get to the PU late, “but for tomorrow, I can assure you that has been sorted out.”
Akeju also urged the electorates to honour the aged as well as the pregnant women and the physically-challenged by allowing them to be attended to first. He added that the Commission has also ordered its officials to get five chairs for this category of people.
Meanwhile, Remi Omowon, director, National Orientation Agency,NOA,Oyo said the agency has made several efforts via all forms of media to enlighten the people on the process of voting.
He however urged the voters to be mindful of what they say and how they discuss it at the PU in order to prevent trouble.
So far the Oyo INEC has distributed over 70 per cent PVCs and the residents say they are ready to exercise their franchise.
