CAF Expels Morocco

Confederation of African Football, CAF, has confirmed the expulsion of Morocco from the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations after the country’s refusal to host the tournament because of its fears over the Ebola outbreak in the West African sub- region.

CAF expelled Morocco, who would have qualified as hosts, from the finals.

Morocco was given until last Saturday to make a final decision on whether or not it would host the tournament.

Morocco asked to postpone the competition until 2016, expressing fears of an influx of foreign fans that could help spread the Ebola epidemic.

CAF’s executive committee met in Cairo, Egypt on Tuesday and confirmed it had taken note of applications from other nations to host the tournament, which are currently “under review.”

CAF also stated that qualification matches for the tournament will continue as planned on November 14 and 15 in order to decide which 15 teams will join the new host country for the finals.

However CAF has not announced a new venue for the tournament, due to take place between January 17 and February 8, 2015 but hopes to finalise its selection shortly.
