U.S Restates Support For INEC

The United States of America, USA has reiterated its support for the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC and its effort to deliver free, fair, and credible elections, a statement from the information office of the US Embassy in Abuja has said.

The US has also said it will continue to support INEC in its essential efforts to distribute Permanent Voter Cards, PVC and help ensure that electronic voter card readers are in place and fully operational for the election.

Joe Biden, US Vice President said this yesterday when he spoke with President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and Muhammadu Buhari, of the All Progressives Congress, APC, the two leading Presidential candidates.

Biden who commended the candidates for signing the Abuja peace Accord in the run-up to the general elections said it is a manifestation of their commitment to non-violence throughout the election process.

He however expressed worry over the pockets of violence recorded recently during election-related events and urged the presidential candidates to “make clear that such violence has no place in democratic elections.”

Biden affirmed that the US stands with the Nigerian people in support of credible and peaceful elections, and will continue to stand with the Nigerian people whatever the outcome.
