The Federal Ministry of Transport has started a review of recruitment, placements and promotions, which the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, commenced in 2010.

Lami Tumaka, NIMASA’s spokesperson, disclosed this in a statement issued yesterday, stating that the committee is expected to determine whether employment, placements and promotions in NIMASA from 2010 to date conformed to civil service procedures and whether they were also in line with the federal character principle. Lawal Ibrahim, the ministry’s director of Human Resources, will head the committee that will implement the review.

According to Haruna Jauro, the acting director-general of NIMASA, the main objective of the exercise is to ensure proper staff placement in line with extant Federal Civil Service regulations. He explained that the exercise will aid the process of motivating employees of the agency and get the best out of them in the discharge of their duties. “In the end, the interest of the staff will be protected, as the civil service rule, which emphasises fairness and equity, will be the guiding principle of the exercise,” Jauro further expressed confidence that employee’s morale will be boosted for enhanced productivity when the process is completed.
