Ortom Commends Efforts to Transform Enugu Airport

To Samuel Ortom, supervising minister of aviation, the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, which is under construction, would be commercially viable after the completion of the renovation exercise.

Ortom, who gave the assurance during his inspection tour of the airport to evaluate the stages of completion, explained that prior to the initiation of the project in the zone, adequate economic research was made and findings revealed that Nigerians from the South East geo-political zone are well known for their prowess in terms of business, “a factor that guarantees sufficient passenger and cargo traffic in that international route.”

Some of the projects are General Aviation Terminal, Pilots’ Lounge, Pilgrims’ Terminal, and the new international terminal, which is one of the five being constructed in other International Airports like Lagos, Kano, Abuja and Port Harcourt, River state.

The Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, which started international flight operations with Ethiopian Airlines, is the first international flight from the South East since the country’s independence.
