Heroic Tanker Driver Detaches Burning Trailer, Saves Crowd From Possible Disaster in Osun
A quick-thinking tanker driver reportedly detached a burning trailer and moved the danger away from crowds and nearby filling stations at Feesu Junction in Iwo, Osun State.
A fuel tanker driver has been praised for his quick thinking after he reportedly detached a burning trailer from his vehicle and moved the danger away from a crowd, filling stations and nearby homes in Iwo, Osun State.
The incident occurred on Thursday at Feesu Junction, shortly after the tanker had finished unloading fuel at a petrol station opposite Lado Filling Station.
According to eyewitness accounts, flames suddenly erupted from the tanker, triggering panic among residents and motorists in the busy commercial area.
Rather than simply abandoning the vehicle, the driver reportedly acted quickly by uncoupling the tractor head from the burning trailer. He then steered the vehicle away from people and nearby facilities, limiting the potential spread of the fire.
The area had reportedly begun attracting bystanders as people gathered to watch the unfolding incident, raising fears that the situation could escalate into a major disaster given the presence of fuel stations and residential buildings nearby.
Usain Taoreed, an eyewitness who watched the incident from Odo-Ori Market, described the driver’s actions as decisive.
“He acted fast and moved the risk away from people and the stations,” Taoreed said.
No injuries have been reported in connection with the incident.
The driver’s actions have since attracted praise from residents and social media users, with some describing him as a hero and calling him “the best driver of the year.”
The incident has also renewed concerns about emergency preparedness and safety measures around petrol stations and other fuel-handling facilities in densely populated areas of Osun State.
However, the exact cause of the fire remains unclear.
As of the time of filing this report, the identity of the tanker driver had not been publicly confirmed, while authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the incident or announce details of any investigation.
Further details are expected as authorities establish what caused the fire and assess the circumstances surrounding the incident.
