Nigeria’s Entertainment Industry Mourns Again

….As “Ireti” and Ada Ameh Die

Just as friends and colleagues at Nollywood were reacting to her post, glad she found joy in the company of friends, a sudden report came. That has thrown the entertainment industry in Nigeria into mourning. A few hours after Ada Ameh sent a post in appreciation of the joy of being with some friends, she reportedly collapsed and died.

Kemi Filani, popular film producer reported that Actress Ada Ameh slumped and died on Sunday around 11 pm in Warri, Delta State.

Reports claimed Ameh was a guest of an oil company toyshop and his family when she suddenly collapsed.

Meanwhile, at about 12.53 pm on Sunday, July 17, she had sent an encouraging post to.admirers, “Happy new week fams. This trip for my friend’s elder sister is just an enjoyment gallow!!! Thanks to my darling sister phil. I really enjoyed myself!!. God bless my love. May dreams come true in Jesus Christ name”. She had suffered depression as a result of tragic occurrences in the family. So, it was natural that people would be glad that she was happy. Thus the shock when they learnt that she passed on the same day.

But before the news had gone through the industry and fans of Nollywood, another sad event happened. This time it was the announcement of the death of Sola Awojobi Onayiga, ace actress who was better known as Ireti, as called in the role she played in the popular television comedy series Fuji House of Commotion. Her death was announced by a family member on social media.

She reportedly died on Monday, 18, 2022, during a two-week treatment in a hospital.

It is not immediately clear what she was being treated for. Sola Onayiga was an accomplished actress both on screen and on stage, a fellow of the Theatre art of Nigeria, she started working as an interviewer with the Federal Capital Development Authority, FCDA, in 1976 and 1977 after which she gained admission and studied Theatre art at the Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife.

Her first professional acting was with her role as Queen Odosun in the play called The King Must Dance Naked by Fred Agbeyegbe.

She played Ireti in Checkmate, an English soap opera in 1991, and moved on to act in Fuji House Commotion. Also, she acted and presented programmes on radio and played the role of Madam Sikira in Theatre on Air.

She was from the family of late Professor Ayodele Awojobi, the genius who taught engineering at the University Lagos.
