The remains of the late matriarch of the Awolowo family, Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo would be buried beside her husband in the late sage’s mausoleum in the family’s 6, Ajina Street residence in Ikenne, Ogun State.
Daughter of the deceased, Tokunbo Awolowo-Dosunmu who gave this hint in Ikenne today, said it had been her mother’s wish to be laid to rest beside her husband, Chief Obafemi Awolowo who passed on on May 9, 1987.
She hinted that the family would respect her wish although no date has yet been fixed for her burial. According to her, suggestions are being made that she be laid to rest on her birthday on November 25, 2015 when she would have clocked 100 years. She said the actual date would be announced at the appropriate time by the family.
Meanwhile, more sympathisers are besieging the Awolowo family compound to pay their respects to the departed matriarch whom Awo, her husband, described as his “jewel of inestimable value”. Among the callers is Chief Gbolabo Ogunsanwo, former managing director of Daily Times, publishers of the defunct Daily Times newspapers, who described her as a force to reckon with. “She understood what her husband stood for and she never wavered in her quest to continue to uphold the ideals and principles he stood for,” Ogunsanwo said.
