A political storm is brewing in Zaria after a 30-year-old man with dwarfism, Muhammad Sadis Buba, successfully cleared the screening process of the All-Progressives Congress (APC) to contest for the House of Representatives seat representing Sabon Gari Federal Constituency.

Buba, a former commercial driver turned grassroots political mobilizer, passed the APC screening exercise held on Saturday and is now set to battle for the party’s ticket ahead of the next general elections.

According to him, his decision to join the race followed persistent appeals from members of his constituency who believe he can represent their interests effectively. He said he is stepping forward to answer the call to serve the people.

His emergence has quickly become one of the most talked-about political developments online, with many Nigerians applauding his courage and describing his candidacy as a powerful symbol of resilience, inclusion, and representation for persons living with disabilities in Nigerian politics.

Supporters say Buba’s journey from commercial driving to national political aspiration reflects determination and the possibility of breaking barriers in the country’s political space.

However, the development has also triggered strong criticism and controversy within parts of Sabon Gari Federal Constituency, particularly among some residents of Basawa Ward in Samaru.

Critics have questioned the aspirant’s age, with claims circulating that he may be significantly younger than the declared 30 years. Some allege he is around 16 years old and lacks the educational qualifications and political experience necessary for legislative office.

One concerned resident argued that leadership should not be treated as entertainment, insisting that public office requires competence, maturity, and deep understanding of governance and constituency needs.

Others also questioned who may be backing the aspirant politically, noting that several experienced politicians within the constituency remain available to contest the position.

Despite the criticism, Buba has maintained that he meets all constitutional requirements needed to contest for the seat and insists that his ambition is driven by a genuine desire to serve his people.

The controversy has continued to generate heated debate across social media platforms, with many Nigerians divided between celebrating his inspirational rise and scrutinizing his eligibility and preparedness for office.

Political observers say the unfolding situation has now placed fresh attention on the upcoming APC primaries in Kaduna State and how the party intends to handle the growing public scrutiny surrounding the candidacy.

As discussions intensify, many are watching closely to see whether Buba’s remarkable political journey will translate into electoral success or remain one of the most controversial stories ahead of the 2027 elections.

This is a developing story.
