MainOne, an innovative telecom services and network solutions provider has announced the opening of its new Data Centre, which spreads over 3,500 square meters in Lekki-Ajah, Lagos.

The $240 million facility, which would be the largest in West Africa, has 600 rack capacity with a direct access to MainOne’s metro and international fiber and all major networks in Nigeria.

Jumoke Akande, head, product marketing of the company, explained that the facility has redundancy for all critical equipment with no single point of failure. Akande said the facility has direct chilling systems of about 2.5 KW cooling capacity with Very Early Smoke Detection Alarm, VESDA, and FM 200 fire suppression.

“There are multiple levels of physical security and biometric access controls with 24 hours, 7 days manned security personnel that are complimented with armed police on each shift. It has biometric access to all colocation areas with air-lock doors to prevent unauthorised access,” she noted.

Unlike the existing facility, which hosts five financial institutions, the new Data centre is expected to host scores of financial institutions, National universities and conglomerates among others. In case of downturn, which hardly come, Akande says “we refund our clients for that period.”

MainOne has laid terrestrial metro fiber network build-out across Lagos and major cities in West Africa to improve network efficiency, reliability and scalability of existing and potential clients.
