The late mother of former Edo State governor, Lucky Nosakhare Igbinedion has been described as a woman of “boundless charity and generosity” not only to her children, but also to organisations, the height of which was her support for all Catholic cultural festivals.
The deceased, Madam Maria Oredola Igbinedion, died December 2, 2021 at the age of 85 years and was laid to rest on Thursday in Benin City, Edo State.
In his homily at a requiem mass held in her honour at St. Augstine Catholic Church in Benin City, on Friday, Rev. Fr. Moses Iyara, said the scripture reassured that the souls of the righteous are in the hands of God like that of Maria Igbinedion who was passionate about communion and had an unquenchable love for the Eucharist.
Fr. Iyara noted that the deceased exhibited the hospitable quality synonymous with the House of Igbinedion, stressing that she was an embodiment of love, care, and spirituality.
The priest stated that beyond missing her, the funeral mass was all about thanking God for the good life she lived.
Eldest son of the deceased, Lucky, said the family was not grieving because their mother lived a fulfilled life.
The former governor explained that the entire Igbnedion household had no reason to mourn their departed mother because she is in a better place with her maker.
Accordingto him, “We are heart-broken, but we are not grieving because we know she lived a good life. And I will not say much else about her because Fr. Moses has captured everything eloquently.
“So, I sincerely want to thank Fr. Moses for his eloquent homily on mama and what she truly stands for .
“I know she is in a better place as we speak. So, on behalf of our patriarch and the children of the House of Igbinedion, we sincerely want to thank you”.
Present at the church service were Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, Senator Tunde Ogbeha, a former military administrator of the defunct Bendel State, James Onanefe Ibori, former Delta State governor, and Senator Matthew Urhoghide, amongst others.
