A member of the House of Representatives, Dennis Idahosa, representing Ovia Federal Constituency in Edo State, has admonished politicians on the imperative of fulfilling their promises to the electorate after winning election.

Idahosa, who is Chairman, House Committee on Legislative Complaince, gave the advice at an empowerment programme on Saturday where he distributed motorcycles to 160 women and youths in his constituency at Iguobazuwa, in Ovia South West Local Government Area of the state.

The federal lawmaker warned that any politician, especially those to represent Ovia Federal Constituency in the future, would be stoned should they fail to deliver on their campaign promises to the people.

The empowerment programme was facilitated by Idahosa through the National Productivity Centre.

Idahosa posited that the standard that had been set in the constituency was such that the people would no longer tolerate a non-performer.

He noted that in addition to his empowerment programme, he had over 54 completed and ongoing projects across the 23 wards making up the federal constituency.

“It is not about winning elections but fulfilling your campaign promises. Again, here we are fulfilling part of our campaign promises.

“This is not just my committment to the people of Ovia federal constituency, but also my committment to God, and to change the narrative of the past.

“Ovia has seen the light; gone are the days when you turn what is meant for the people to yourself. By the time we are done, whoever that will come must perform or they will be stoned”, Idahosa stated.

In his remarks, a member-elect of the State House of Assembly, Sunday Aghedo, said he was never in doubt that Idahosa would be an effective representative of Ovia federal constituency.

According to him, “There have been others before him, but they failed to do what Idahosa is doing now. He has set a standard that those coming after him will strive hard to achieve.

“What he is doing today is unprecedented in the history of Ovia federal constituency”.

Also speaking, the state secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Lawrence Okah, underscored the need for the beneficiaries to maintain the motorcycles, stressing that “These motorcycles are to enable you all to work and take care of your families”.
