The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, said it has mobilized the army, navy, and other security personnel in Bayelsa State to ensure a hitch-free permanent voter registration and voter cards distribution exercise.
Edwin Nwatarali, the state Residential Electoral Commissioner, said in Yenagoa, that the security personnel would beef up security around the registration units and wards, especially the waterways to forestall disorder.
“The army is patrolling the major road, the navy has been mobilized; they are patrolling the waterways. So, for security we don’t have any fear.What I’m telling the electorate is that the most important thing is for them to check whether their names are on the displayed register; once your name is on the displayed register, there is no problem”.
“If you don’t find your card, we will produce your card. But if your name is not on the displayed register, please, do take advantage of the window for continuous voter registration, which is between May 28 and June 1,” Nwatarali said.
He explained that reaching out to remote communities especially in the creeks, was a major challenge for INEC in the state.
