ICIR Releases Names of Participants For 2015 Training

The International Centre for Investigative Reporting, ICIR, Abuja, has announced 44 journalists from across the country to participate in its second Investigative Journalism Training programme series. Juliana Uche-Okobi, assistant editor, TELL Magazine, is one of the shortlisted candidates for the training programme scheduled for May 19 to May 21 in Abuja.

According to Dayo Aiyetan, project director, the programme is part of the Nigeria Investigative Reporting Project, NIRP reporting and publishing initiative funded by Ford Foundation, which is aimed at building capacity for journalists in Nigeria to effectively play their role in promoting accountability and good governance.

The project which is in its second year aims at equipping journalists with the latest investigative journalism skills and techniques. Also, as part of the project, successful applicants will be able to access small grants to pursue investigative story projects that have direct impact on their communities.

The 44 successful journalists were shortlisted from over 80 applications from print, electronic and online media from all over the country. The selection committee composed of ICIR staff and some respected editors who carefully went through each individual application based on the selection criteria outlined in the ‘Call for Applications’.
