Hurray, It’s A No-Bra Day! - TELL Magazine

Hurray, It’s A No-Bra Day!

Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian and her 37-year-old husband, Kenye West, enjoyed a date night out in West Hollywood bra-less

Ordinarily, Mondays are very busy and serious days in most organizations. For some curious, yet obvious reasons, most organizations slate management meetings and other serious engagements on Mondays.

Monday, October 13 was no different. For me, the day had all the trappings of the seriousness it required. First on my list was management meeting. This was closely followed, as usual, by the editorial board meeting and after that, I had several departmental meetings I needed to chair all in a bid to set the tone for the week.

I was in one of such “serious” meetings when it suddenly occurred to me that this was no ordinary Monday. It was October 13, a day set aside for the commemoration of the International No Bra Day!

At that point, the curiosity of a reporter got the better side of me. I seized the opportunity to ask one of my female colleagues if she was aware of what was being marked on October 13. “Yes” she answered. “So are you in compliance?” came the natural follow up question.

Then there was a pin drop silence. My male colleagues at the meeting were expectant and the female colleague to whom the question was directed took her time before calmly responding with a “no.” She then proceeded to calmly explain why she could not observe the day. “You know it is not meant for all of us. I am busty and if I don’t wear a bra, there will be commotion and most of you will not be able to work or even concentrate on this meeting,” she said.

Then bedlam literally followed. There were arguments for and against why she ought to have observed the world no bra day. Some of us felt she should just have allowed her mammary glands some freedom. Allow them breathe some fresh air and for once be free from those manacles called bras.

Personally, I see nothing wrong with the idea of allowing the breast some freedom. If you ask me, I would vote for boobie freedom any day. Women are magnificent creatures, and so are their breasts. Therefore, it would not be a bad idea to have a day of unleashing boobies from their boobie cages.

On a day like this, if only women would comply, it should not be out of place to see breasts of different sizes and shapes ranging from the colossal to the adorable, miniature, full, glistening, bouncy, smooth, tender, still blossoming, rosy or cuddly all competing for attention and bubbling in the euphoria of their new found freedom. You will be surprised that even the flabby ones display some beauty!

And the men should not be left out. They are supposed to spot a touch of pink as a show of solidarity. It could be a pink tie, shirt, socks, pink ribbon or even boxers-just make sure people see it.

After all, it is all about drawing attention to the breast and how to take good care of it. The international no bra day is all part of the global desire to draw attention to the dangers of breast cancer and part of the activities lined up in the month of October which is dedicated to cancer awareness.

So ladies and gentlemen, if you missed it this year, please don’t miss it in the coming year. Note it on your calendar, diary or even save it as a reminder on your phone. October 13 is a day set aside for no wearing of bra, please endeavour to comply.
