A fire incident has occurred inside a building at the office complex of the Nigerian Football Federation in Abuja.
The inferno, which started at about 10am affected the offices of the Chief Accountant, the General Secretary and the ICT unit.
The incident started with plumes of smoke oozing out of the office of the Chief Accountant, but later developed into a full-blown blaze, destroying books, office equipment, among other items.
While a combined team of Federal Fire Services and the Federal Capital Territory Fire Services was said to have arrived the scene early enough, their inability to gain access into the building delayed their intervention.
Although Julius Opetunsin, Deputy Controller, FCT Fire Service, said the cause of the fire could not be ascertained, he stressed that the manner in which cars were parked on the premises affected the response of his men.
While commending the fire fighters for responding within a short period of time, Aminu Maigari, NFF President, described the incident as an act of God.
“I won’t want to apportion blame, let just take it as an act of God. We want to thank the fire fighters for responding within a short period of time,” Maigari said.
