Taraba State chapter of the Nigerian Union of Teachers, NUT, has directed its members not to comply with the federal government’s directive for schools resumption on September 22.

At a news conference in Jalingo, the state capital, Aliyu Mafidi, chairman of the union in the state declared that there was no reason to justify the resumption date given by the federal government as the state government had not put measures in place to protect students and teachers against the outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease, EVD.

Mafidi maintained that the state government was yet to fulfil its promise to put measures in place to prevent the spread of the disease to the state.

“Till this moment, we have not seen anything in place. We hereby direct our members not to resume until the state government puts in place, measures to prevent the spread of the dreaded disease,” the union leader said.

He disclosed further that the union would not take the risk of allowing students and teachers to resume without any government effort to protect them.
