Nigerian music superstars Davido and Burna Boy have set social media abuzz following reports that they met privately and exchanged a handshake at rapper Zlatan Ibile’s bachelor party in Lagos, fuelling speculation that their long-running rivalry may finally be coming to an end.

The reported encounter allegedly took place on Thursday night, October 22, 2026, at Club OX in Victoria Island, Lagos, where both Afrobeats heavyweights were said to have attended the private celebration.

According to reports by Nigerian entertainment platforms and Instagram blogger Cutie Juls, the two singers reportedly had a private conversation in an upstairs managers’ office while members of their respective entourages waited outside.

They were subsequently said to have emerged smiling and exchanged a handshake, which reportedly found its way onto social media, triggering excitement among fans and reigniting debate about the possibility of a lasting reconciliation.

However, neither Davido nor Burna Boy has publicly confirmed the reported meeting or indicated that they have formally resolved their differences. Their representatives have also yet to provide an official account of what transpired at the event.

The development has attracted considerable attention because of the history of tension between the two musicians, whose rivalry has remained one of the most discussed subjects in Nigerian entertainment for years.

Although the pair have occasionally given indications that they could move past their disagreements, subsequent controversies and online exchanges have repeatedly fuelled speculation that their relationship remains strained.

The rivalry became particularly prominent around 2020, as fans interpreted lyrics, public statements and social media activity as possible indirect shots at each other. Davido’s hit song “FEM” and Burna Boy’s “Way Too Big” became part of the wider conversation, although interpretations of the songs’ intended targets have varied.

Their respective camps were also linked to reports of a nightclub confrontation in Accra, Ghana, further intensifying public interest in their relationship.

In January 2022, Burna Boy appeared to extend an olive branch when he called for peace and urged people to embrace one another, declaring that everyone must love themselves in the new year.

The statement raised hopes that the disagreement had been settled. However, later controversies and social media exchanges revived questions about whether the apparent reconciliation had endured.

Further online discussions, including controversies surrounding Davido’s reported “New Cat” comments and a 2024 social media exchange, kept the rivalry in the headlines. Rumours of behind-the-scenes mediation also circulated, but there was no lasting, publicly confirmed resolution.

Against this background, the reported encounter at Zlatan Ibile’s bachelor party has generated renewed optimism among fans who have long hoped to see the two stars put their differences aside.

Reactions online have been mixed. While some fans have welcomed the possibility of peace, others have urged caution, arguing that a handshake alone does not establish that the musicians have resolved every outstanding issue.

For the Nigerian music industry, a genuine reconciliation between Davido and Burna Boy could help ease tensions among sections of their fiercely loyal fan bases, whose online exchanges have frequently amplified disagreements between the stars.

Both musicians have built successful international careers and remain influential figures in the global Afrobeats movement. Their perceived rivalry has often dominated online entertainment conversations, sometimes overshadowing discussions about their music and professional achievements.

For now, however, the circumstances surrounding the reported private meeting remain unclear. There has been no official joint statement, and neither artist has publicly explained whether the encounter signals a permanent end to their differences.

Whether the reported handshake marks the beginning of a genuine reconciliation or was simply a cordial moment at a social gathering remains to be seen.

Until either camp confirms the development, fans will have to wait for further evidence before declaring an end to one of Afrobeats’ most talked-about rivalries.
