Abia Governor increases allowance for traditional rulers

Theodor Orji, the Abia State governor has promised to increase the monthly allowance of traditional rulers in the state by two per cent.

The new development was let out of the bag by the governor when a group of the state council of traditional rulers led by Eze Eberechi Dick, its chairman, paid him a courtesy visit at the Executive council Chambers of Government House, Umuahia, Abia State capital.

Orji promised to send an executive bill to the state’s Assembly for onward consideration so that the traditional rulers’ stipends will be increased.

The promise came on the backdrop of frequent calls on the Governor by traditional rulers in the state to resolve the matter once and for all.

Orji who appreciated the local community leaders for the visit, also promised to purchase new vehicle each for the chairmen of the various councils in the 17 Local Government Areas across the state, including the Public Relations Officer, PRO of the council to aid their duties of providing community governance to the citizens.

Orji also promised them a peaceful and transparent process in electing the next governor of the state at the 2015 general elections.
