Residents of Asi town in Osun State have taken to the streets in protest against their traditional ruler, Oba Oyewale Olasunkanmi Isaac Akorede, the Alasi of Asi, accusing him of alleged misconduct and fraudulent dealings.

In a viral video circulating online, the aggrieved locals can be seen marching and chanting slogans, demanding accountability from the monarch. According to multiple protesters, Oba Akorede is accused of collecting large sums of money for community development contracts which he reportedly never completed.

One of the most controversial claims involves the king allegedly “carrying OS”—a local slang often interpreted as engaging in shady or self-serving government dealings—and receiving contract funds without executing the actual projects, thereby depriving the community of essential infrastructure.

Residents say they have reached a breaking point after several attempts to get explanations from the monarch were ignored. They argue that the traditional institution, meant to foster trust and unity, has instead become a source of exploitation in their town.

The video, shared by social commentator @dammiedammie35, has triggered massive reactions online, with many Nigerians calling for an investigation by the Osun State government and traditional council authorities.

“He collected money, promised to complete projects and disappeared with it. Our roads and public utilities remain untouched,” one visibly angry resident stated during the protest.

As of the time of this report, the Osun State Government and the Council of Traditional Rulers have not yet issued an official statement, but pressure continues to mount for a full-scale probe into the allegations.

This protest comes amid increasing scrutiny of traditional rulers and community leaders across Nigeria, many of whom are now being held to higher standards by their constituents in the age of digital transparency and citizen journalism.
