Ahmed Tinubu, former governor of Lagos State has condemned the alleged attempt by some politicians to lure military men into planning a take over of government in the country. He spoke on Monday, May 22, at a special session of the Lagos State House of Assembly. The session is part of the ongoing celebration of the 50th anniversary of the creation of the state.
Tinubu, also known as the national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, said if true such a plan cannot succeed. According to him, Nigeria has “gone too far for such a thing to happen.” Apparently, Tinubu is of the opinion that democracy has taken root that the people would not succumb to any attempt at being cajoled by a set of military officers to accept what Nigerians fought against some years ago. As if speaking for the people, Tinubu said, “We will not buy their sad product.” He explained that the alleged undemocratic approach to take over the government from those elected by the people is the “sad product “.
In fact, he said firmly, “Lagos will resist (coup)”.
