The Nigerian Immigration Service, NIS has begun the training of some 500-border patrol officials in Kano State to control the influx of illegal aliens into the country.
David Paradang, NIS controller general said the border patrol unit would work with other security agencies to ensure better border security management.
He said disclosed this on Mondayat the flag-off ceremony of the training at the immigration training school in Kano.
Paradang who admitted that much needs to be done to curtail the infiltration of Nigeria’s border towns by insurgents said, Nigeria’s border needs to be well monitored by security agencies at this time that Boko Haram members are infiltrating the north east. The terrorist group has carried out series of attacks on villages, churches and schools in the northeast in the last 5 years.
The Immigration controller also said a second batch of the border patrol team will be trained later in the year.
