President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to arrive in Ogun State today for a landmark official visit that will see the commissioning of the highly anticipated Gateway International Airport and the launch of a new state-backed airline initiative.

The high-profile visit, hosted by Governor Dapo Abiodun, marks a major milestone in Ogun State’s ambitious plan to position itself as a key aviation, logistics, and industrial hub in Nigeria and across West Africa.

At the heart of the visit is the official inauguration of the Gateway International Cargo Airport, strategically located along the Iperu-Ilishan corridor. The modern facility is designed to boost cargo operations, improve air connectivity, and unlock new opportunities for trade, exports, and foreign investment in the state.

In a significant move for the aviation sector, the President will also unveil Gateway Air, a new airline initiative backed by the Ogun State Government. As part of the launch, two newly acquired commercial aircraft will be presented in partnership with ValueJet, signaling the state’s entry into commercial aviation. The airline is expected to handle both passenger and cargo services while generating revenue and creating employment opportunities.

Beyond aviation, the President’s itinerary includes the commissioning and inspection of several major infrastructure projects aimed at accelerating development across the state. These include the Ilishan–Iperu Airport Access Road, the reconstruction of the Sagamu–Iperu–Ode Remo–Sapade Road, the Aviation Village, and an Independent Power Plant. He is also scheduled to flag off the Gateway International Conference Centre and oversee the distribution of security vehicles, electric bikes, ambulances, and agricultural equipment.

The event, which had been rescheduled following the President’s earlier visit to Plateau State over security concerns, is expected to draw top government officials, investors, and stakeholders. Attendees have been directed to be seated by 11:00 AM ahead of the official commencement at noon.

Governor Abiodun described the projects as transformative, noting that they will drive industrialisation, improve transportation networks, and enhance the overall economic outlook of Ogun State. With its cargo-focused infrastructure, the new airport is expected to compete with leading aviation facilities nationwide and support Nigeria’s export ambitions.

The development aligns with the administration’s broader economic agenda, focusing on infrastructure expansion and diversification. Analysts say the combined impact of the airport and the new airline could significantly boost investor confidence, stimulate commerce, and create thousands of jobs across multiple sectors.

As activities unfold in Iperu, expectations remain high that the projects will mark a turning point in Ogun State’s development trajectory, strengthening its position as a preferred destination for business, logistics, and tourism in Nigeria.
