Kwara State Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, on Thursday held a strategic security meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, following the deadly attack on Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The meeting came amid growing public concern after armed attackers struck the community, killing several residents and triggering renewed fears over rural security in the state.

Speaking to State House correspondents after the closed-door meeting, Governor AbdulRazaq commended President Tinubu for the rapid approval and deployment of Operation Savannah Shield, a special military and security operation established to secure the affected area and prevent further violence.

According to the governor, the immediate deployment of troops and security assets has already begun to reassure residents and is expected to restore peace and stability in Kaiama and surrounding communities.

“The President’s swift intervention demonstrates his commitment to protecting lives and property. The presence of security forces will go a long way in stabilizing the area and preventing a recurrence,” AbdulRazaq said.

Prior to the Aso Villa meeting, the governor had personally visited Kaiama, accompanied by senior security commanders and key members of his cabinet. During the visit, he assessed the situation on the ground, engaged community leaders, and reiterated the state government’s determination to ensure justice for the victims and lasting peace for residents.

The Woro community attack has once again highlighted persistent security challenges in some rural areas, prompting calls for stronger collaboration between federal and state authorities. Governor AbdulRazaq reaffirmed Kwara State’s commitment to working closely with national security agencies to address emerging threats and protect citizens.
