President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of renowned Islamic scholar and spiritual leader, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, who died on Thursday at the age of 101.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described the late Tijjaniyya Muslim Brotherhood leader as a “moral compass” and a towering figure who devoted his life to teaching, preaching and promoting peace.
The President noted that Sheikh Bauchi’s death is a monumental loss not only to his family and millions of followers but also to Nigeria, where his influence and mentorship spanned generations.
President Tinubu also recalled the spiritual support and blessings he received from the revered cleric during the period leading up to the 2023 general election.
“Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi was a teacher, a father, and a voice of moderation and reason. As both a preacher and a notable exegete of the Holy Quran, he was an advocate of peace and piety. His death has created a huge void,” the President stated.
He extended heartfelt condolences to followers of the Tijjaniyya movement across Nigeria and beyond, urging them to honour the cleric’s legacy by upholding his teachings of peaceful coexistence, devotion to God and kindness to humanity.
The President prayed for the repose of Sheikh Bauchi’s soul and for strength for his family and disciples as they navigate this difficult period.
