Tinubu Orders Massive Security Crackdown After Ogbomoso School Kidnap, Approves 1,000 Forest Guards

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the immediate recruitment of 1,000 forest guards in Oyo State and ordered the deployment of a specialized security rescue team following the abduction of pupils and teachers from schools in Ogbomoso communities.

The directive comes amid growing concern over the May 15 kidnapping of students and staff from Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The President’s intervention was announced during a visit by a high-powered Federal Government delegation to the affected communities of Esiele and Yawota on Sunday, May 31, 2026.

The delegation, led by the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, delivered President Tinubu’s message of solidarity to residents and assured them that every available resource would be deployed to secure the safe return of the victims.

As part of the emergency response, the President approved the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards in partnership with the Oyo State Government to strengthen surveillance and security operations across vulnerable forest corridors often exploited by criminal groups.

In addition, a specialized security unit equipped with advanced rescue capabilities has been directed to intensify efforts aimed at locating and rescuing the abducted pupils and teachers.

Addressing residents in both English and Yoruba languages, Gbajabiamila said President Tinubu remained deeply disturbed by the incident and was personally committed to ensuring a positive outcome.

“Mr. President is deeply troubled by this incident. Whatever it takes, our children and teachers will be brought back home safely,” he said.

According to the delegation, the rescue operation will be intelligence-driven and carefully coordinated using a combination of kinetic and non-kinetic security strategies. Officials also emphasized that the government is mindful of appeals from parents and community leaders urging caution to avoid endangering the lives of those in captivity.

Community leaders used the opportunity to request the establishment of a military base in the area to strengthen long-term security. The Federal Government delegation assured residents that the request would be forwarded to President Tinubu for urgent consideration.

The delegation also paid a courtesy visit to the traditional ruler of Ogbomosoland, Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, where discussions centered on security challenges facing communities in the region and measures to prevent future attacks.

In a further show of support, the delegation visited the family of the late Mrs. Mary Oyedokun, one of the victims affected by the tragedy, conveying the President’s condolences and assuring them that the Federal Government would not abandon the family during this difficult period.

Other senior officials on the delegation included Nuhu Ribadu, Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu, Chief of Defence Staff Christopher Musa, and Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications Sunday Dare.

The latest measures are being viewed as one of the strongest federal responses to a school abduction incident in recent months and underscore the administration’s determination to confront insecurity in affected communities.

As rescue efforts intensify, families of the abducted pupils and teachers continue to await positive news, while security agencies work around the clock to secure their release.
