After the hit single titled ‘Forever’ that got people talking, Olanrewaju Gabriel Mayowa popularly known as Mayowa Bae dropped another hot banger ‘Gbese Si Titi’.
The young singer in his early twenties who was born and brought up in Surulere, Lagos shared some fascinating things about himself in an interview with TELL.
His name is Mayowa but how did he come about ‘BAE’? “Mayowa is my real name and the Bae after it stands for ‘Before Anyone Else’. So when you call my name it makes it more artistic like Mayowa Before Anyone Else.” Lol… He chuckles. After asking how long he has been into music, he said, “I created my first band and dropped my first single when I was 16.
Has he ever dealt with performance anxiety? Mayowa says, “Yes, I have but I have a good way of getting rid of it because performing on stage is one of the things that gives me joy.”
According to him, there is no hidden meaning to any of his songs. The artiste who claimed he schooled and graduated from street university, which basically means the street taught him everything he knows today, explained that “my favorite food is pounded yam and vegetables.”
But how was he inspired to go into music? “God inspired my music skills and I’m really looking forward to collaborating with a bigger artiste that is into my kind of genre of music,” she told the magazine.
Mayowa was also asked if he was single or married and he said, “I’m not single because all my female fans are my girlfriends. I love every one of them so much,” as he chuckles again.
His celebrity crush changes every time but right now it is Nancy Isime, an actor and VJ of HipTv. “I spend my spare time by reading, seeing some movies and listening to mind-blowing music.” In his career, the biggest problem he has ever overcome was getting his family to support his music career. “They were against me being an artist but now I can say they are my number one loyal supporters.”
After asking Mayowa how he interact and respond to his fans, he said, “Basically, I won’t say all my supporters are fans, they are part of my family because they love and appreciate my music even before my real family started believing in me. I do the best I can by responding to some of their messages on social media and I reciprocate and support them the little way I can. They are everything and more to me.”
The rising star was asked to tell us anything he would like to share with his fans. And he said, “I’m not giving up on my dreams, and this is just the beginning. My family (fans) should, however, expect nothing less than good music and quality videos from me.
