Promasidor Nigeria plc, manufacturers of Top tea, Onga and Cowbell among others, has honoured seven Nigerian journalists with dedicated news reportage across sectors of the economy during the 2014 edition of its Quill Award at Eko Hotel and Suite, Lagos, on Saturday.
Seven journalists won awards at the annual event. While Kunle Falayi of Punch Newspapers was the overall winner with three awards, Adekunle Yusuf of The Nations newspapers won the CSR and Industry reporter of the year and Gbenga Salawu of the Guardian emerged the Nutrition reporter of the year.
Others are Ayodele Ojo of The Sun newspapers who won the Photo Story category, Dan Obi of BusinessDay, Brand Advocate of the year; Odogwu Obinna of the Sun, Future writer and Isioma Madike of National Mirror, won a tie with Falayi in the Best Report on Children category.
Keith Richards, managing director of the company, explained that the award is to recognise and encourage journalists. He disclosed that the overall winnner will attend an all expenses paid 4-week multimedia training at the Thompson Foundation, London, United Kingdom.
He said Promasidor is committed to provide an appropriate environment for journalists in Nigeria. He says, “We created the Quill platform because we realised journalists are hardworking but neglected without honour in the society. We celebrate them for dedicated news reportage on industry, education, corporate social responsibility and nutrition issues all year round.”
Quill Award was launched at the Promasidor Media Brand Academy in March, 2012.
