Popular 70’s UK Pop star, Gary Glitter, has been sentenced to 16 years jail term for sexually abusing three young girls between 1975 and 1980.

Glitter, whose real name is Paul Gadd, was sentenced for attempted rape, four counts of indecent assault and one of having sex with a girl under 13.

At the sentencing, Judge Alistair McCreath said he could find “no real evidence” that the Pop star had atoned for his crimes. The Judge told Glitter that it was clear his victims “were all profoundly affected” by his abuse of them.

“You did all of them real and lasting damage and you did so for no other reason than to obtain sexual gratification for yourself of a wholly improper kind,” he said.

McCreath said the guidelines dictated that he must take the current sentencing options into account for the historical offences.

“The offences for which I must pass sentence today took place many years ago at a time when in particular, in respect of one of them, the maximum sentence was considerably lower than that which is now available,” the judge said.

Gary Glitter was most popular in the 70’s and 80’s. His breakout single, Rock ‘n’ Roll (Parts 1 and 2) reached number two in the UK in 1972 and topped the US charts. Some of his hit singles include, ‘I Didn’t Know I Loved You Till I saw You Rock and Roll,’ I Love You Love and Do You Wanna Touch Me.
