The United States Government has imposed stiff Conditions of Entry, CoE, on vessels originating from Nigerian ports prior to entering U.S. ports, the U.S. Consular General in Lagos has said in a press statement.
According to the statement issued on Thursday, any vessel calling from Nigeria ports will henceforth have to “meet certain security measures prior to entering U.S. ports.”
The consulate said it became imperative for the US to take such a stand after observing that in the past six years, “Nigerian ports have not fully implemented the provisions of the International Ship and Port Security, ISPS Code, the primary international security standard, and do not have effective anti-terrorism measures in place.”
The statement said the measure was not a trade sanction on Nigeria and does not ban Nigerian ships from entering U.S. ports.
