The Federal Government has taken a major step toward strengthening evidence-based governance with the official launch of three key national statistical reports aimed at improving data production, coordination, and utilisation across the country.

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Monday unveiled the Power of Data High Impact Initiative Action Plan, the Third National Strategy for the Development of Statistics (NSDS III), and the 2024 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Report, in a move described as critical to Nigeria’s development planning and policy implementation.

The launch event brought together senior government officials, representatives of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), as well as development partners, underscoring a shared commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s National Statistical System and advancing data-driven decision-making.

The reports were formally launched by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, who was represented at the event by Dr. Abubakar Kana, Permanent Secretary, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

According to the NBS, the newly launched documents are designed to modernise the country’s statistical framework, enhance coordination among data-producing institutions, and improve the availability of timely, reliable, and policy-relevant data.

The Power of Data High Impact Initiative Action Plan is expected to accelerate the use of quality data in governance, while NSDS III provides a strategic roadmap for strengthening statistical capacity nationwide. The 2024 SDG Report offers an updated assessment of Nigeria’s progress toward achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Officials noted that the initiatives will significantly improve progress tracking on the SDGs, support institutional development, and guide strategic planning across sectors of the economy.

Development partners and stakeholders at the event commended the collaborative efforts that led to the successful launch of the reports, describing them as vital tools for informed policymaking, accountability, and sustainable national growth.

The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging data as a cornerstone for effective governance, economic development, and inclusive growth in Nigeria.
