“My Happiness Is Gone” — Nollywood Veteran Peju Ogunmola Loses Only Son Shina, 24, in Heartbreaking Tragedy
The Nollywood veteran’s only son, fondly called “My Happiness,” dies at 24 just weeks after completing NYSC, leaving colleagues and fans in deep mourning.
The Nollywood family has been plunged into deep grief as veteran actress Peju Ogunmola, 56, mourns the devastating loss of her only son, Shina, who tragically passed away at just 24 years old, barely a month after completing his NYSC.
According to reports, Shina allegedly slipped in the bathroom with no one around to help him. He was later discovered and rushed to a clinic on Monday, September 1, but sadly, he could not be revived.
For Mama Peju, this loss is beyond words. Shina was not just her child, but her confidant and constant companion. She often referred to him as “My Happiness,” a name that captured the special bond they shared. He was always by her side, a quiet strength and joy in her life, making his sudden passing even more unbearable.
News of his death reached the actress while she was on a movie set, shaking her to her core and leaving colleagues and fans in tears.
This heartbreaking tragedy comes less than 24 hours after the loss of rising skitmaker Sanku, compounding the sorrow in Nollywood. But for Peju, the grief cuts especially deep — Shina was her only biological child. While she also shares a close relationship with her stepson, actor Sukanmi Omobolanle, through her husband, Sunday Omobolanle, Shina’s death has left a void that can never be filled.
Since the news broke, tributes have been pouring in across social media from Nollywood stars and fans. Funke Akindele wrote: “No mother should ever bury her child. My heart breaks for Mama Peju. May God comfort you.” Femi Adebayo described the loss as “unimaginable,” saying: “We stand with you in this dark hour. Nollywood mourns with you.” Faithia Williams added: “I can’t even breathe reading this news. Mama Peju, may the Lord give you strength to survive this pain.”
Fans have also flooded comment sections with words of comfort, many recalling how openly Peju celebrated her son. One user wrote: “She always called him ‘My Happiness.’ This pain is too much. Rest in peace, young king.”
The Nollywood community has united in mourning, describing the incident as one of the most painful blows to the industry in recent times.
As condolences continue to pour in, one thing is certain: Shina’s memory will forever live in the heart of the woman who always called him her happiness.
