Following Donald Trump’s summit talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday, the White House has released a letter from First Lady Melania Trump that has stirred global reactions. The letter, hand-delivered to Putin by Trump himself, focused on the plight of children caught in war and urged the Russian leader to take action.

“Every child shares the same quiet dreams in their heart… They dream of love, possibility, and safety from danger,” Melania Trump wrote, stressing that leaders bear a moral responsibility to protect the innocence of children worldwide. She called on Putin to “restore their melodic laughter” and framed the appeal as a chance to serve not only Russia, but humanity itself.

The heartfelt message quickly went viral after Trump posted it on Truth Social. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reportedly thanked the First Lady during a call with Trump on Saturday, with Ukraine’s Foreign Minister hailing it as “a true act of humanism.”

However, the letter has since sparked controversy. Critics argued that it was vague about which children were being referenced, while some accused the text of being generated by artificial intelligence. Democratic strategist Keith Edwards described it as “a whole lot of nothing,” while X’s AI chatbot Grok suggested the letter was “likely 85% AI-drafted, with minor human edits.”

This isn’t the first time Melania Trump has been linked with AI. She previously announced that the audiobook for her memoir Melania would be narrated by artificial intelligence using her own voice.

The timing of the letter has only heightened intrigue, as Zelenskyy prepares to meet Trump today at the White House alongside European leaders including UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte.

The Alaska summit ended without a deal to end the war in Ukraine, but Melania Trump’s letter has ensured the debate over diplomacy, AI, and political messaging is far from over.
