The film adaptation of award winning Nigerian author, Chimamanda Adichie’s book, “Half of A Yellow Sun” has been well received by movie lovers in London, UK who described it as one of Nigeria’s best films.
Tickets to the film, which premiered Tuesday, April 8 at the Odeon Cinema were said to have been sold out. The film tells the story of the Nigerian Civil War, love and family. The hall was filled to capacity with people of all races, who were there to learn more about the Nigerian civil war.
Some of those who attended the premiere said that the film would become one of the nation’s internationally acclaimed brands given its unique story line and were also satisfied with the ‘A list’ of international and local cast in the film.
The film, which was directed by Biyi Bandele, featured stars like Nigerian-born British actor, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Hollywood actress, Thandie Newton, Genevieve Nnaji, John Boyega, Onyeka Onwenu and Joseph Mawle among others.
Bandele said the film was quite contemporary in style and has received positive responses from moviegoers. He expressed hope that the film would go a long way in countering the stereotypes about the nation adding, “The cast of the film was a selection of best actors.”
Adichie on her part said she was “delighted that the film was able to capture the essence of the novel.”
