Lindsay Lohan, a popular actress has been diagnosed with the Chikungunya virus during her French Polynesian holiday.
Chikungunya is rarely fatal, but causes fever and severe joint pains with no medical cure.
The 28-year-old Lohan revealed she contracted the disease Saturday on Twitter, and pleaded with her followers to use bug spray. She later posted a photo of herself on Instagram, and declared the virus won’t affect her holiday.
“In good faith with good people,” she captioned the picture. “I refuse to let a virus affect my peaceful vacation. Be safe and happy on the New Year all. Have a positive, healthy new year.”
According to the World Health Organization, Chikungunya is transmitted through mosquito bites and causes fever and severe joint pain, among other unpleasant symptoms.There is no cure; treatment primarily focuses on relieving symptoms.
