The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has announced a final extension of the deadline for filing 2025 individual annual income tax returns, giving taxpayers an additional one-week window to comply before penalties apply.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the agency said the filing deadline has been moved from April 14 to Tuesday, April 21, 2026, citing increased traffic and heavy usage on its electronic tax filing platform as thousands of Lagos residents rushed to meet the previous deadline.
According to LIRS, the extension is intended to ease pressure on taxpayers and allow more residents to complete their submissions accurately through the online portal.
“This additional extension is granted in consideration of the overwhelming response and to enhance taxpayer convenience, while maintaining the integrity and accuracy of submissions,” the agency stated.
The tax authority stressed that the new date is the final extension and warned that failure to file before the deadline may attract statutory penalties and interest.
Executive Chairman of LIRS, Dr. Ayodele Subair, reiterated that all annual income tax returns must be submitted exclusively through the agency’s electronic filing system.
He noted that the LIRS eTax platform remains the only approved channel for filing and urged taxpayers to avoid last-minute delays.
The extension applies to all individuals who earned income in Lagos State during the 2025 tax year.
LIRS encouraged taxpayers experiencing difficulties with the filing process to visit any of its offices across the state or contact the agency through its official support channels for assistance.
The statement was signed by Monsurat Amasa-Oyelude, Head of Corporate Communications at LIRS.
This is the second extension granted by the agency during the current filing season. The deadline was initially moved from the statutory March 31 deadline to April 14 before the latest extension to April 21.
LIRS has now urged all eligible taxpayers to take advantage of the final grace period and complete their filings promptly to avoid sanctions.
