Olayinka Oladunjoye, the Lagos State Commissioner for Education has urged
principals and head teachers of public and private schools in the state to cooperate with enumerators for the success of the State’s 2014/2015 Annual Schools Census, ASC,which kicked off on Wednesday.
While speaking at the flag-off of the 2014/2015 ASC Sensitization Program for stakeholders in the education sector, the Commissioner said the exercise was aimed at generating, timely, dependable and usable data for multi-sector planning.
“I urge all our stakeholders, especially our principals and head teachers who are the drivers of the Annual Schools Census, to produce credible and timely data for the education sector.
“Hitherto, inconsistencies of data, care-free attitude to data collection, and non-
remittance of timely returns have characterized the attitude of the stakeholders,” she said.
Oladunjoye appealed to the audience to turn a new leaf by embracing efficient data generation that is worthy of the efforts and usable across board.
The commissioner stressed that all hands must be on deck to ensure that credible, reliable and usable data is delivered, thereby making the exercise a success.
“I appeal to our principals and head teachers to be available to attend to the enumerators; make all records available, including statutory records, administrative records and teaching records, among others.
“They should provide access to the enumeration facilities, equipment and on- the- spot head count of staff and students; create adequate time for the enumerators’ visits, and volunteer correct and faithful information,” she said.
