Lagos International Airport Terminal One Set for N712 Billion Renovation Over 22 Months – Minister Keyamo Announces
Federal Government unveils ambitious plan to modernize Lagos Airport’s Terminal One with a ₦712 billion upgrade, promising enhanced passenger experience and international standards.
The Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, Terminal One is set to undergo a massive renovation spanning 22 months, with a projected cost of ₦712 billion, according to Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN).
Keyamo made the announcement during a press briefing, highlighting the Federal Government’s commitment to modernizing aviation infrastructure to meet international standards and improve passenger experience.
“This is a transformative step in our aviation sector. Terminal One at the Lagos Airport, one of the busiest in West Africa, will see a full upgrade that will position Nigeria as a hub for air travel in Africa,” Keyamo stated.
The renovation is part of the government’s broader plan to revamp key airport terminals across the country, improve safety standards, and boost the tourism and business environment. The minister assured stakeholders that flight operations would continue through alternate terminals during the renovation period.
While some Nigerians expressed optimism about the development, others raised concerns about the staggering cost of ₦712 billion and called for transparency and oversight to ensure accountability throughout the project.
As work is set to begin in the coming weeks, all eyes will be on the Ministry of Aviation to deliver a world-class terminal that matches the investment and expectations of air travelers.
