Juliana Francis, journalist with New Telegraph Newspaper, has won the overall Wole Soyinka Nigeria Investigative journalist of the year 2014 prize becoming the first female to attain such feat.
The event, which is the 9th Wole Soyinka Award for Investigative Reporting organized by the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism, WSCIJ, was held on Tuesday, December 9 at the NECA main hall, Agidingbi, Lagos.
The event started with a drama presentation of excerpts of Wole Soyinka’s ‘The Beatification of Area Boy’.
At the event, journalists from broadcast, print and online media platforms were also recognized and awarded.
Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability project, SERAP, won the award for National Anti-Corruption Defender Award, while Ademola Osinubi, Managing Director of Punch Newspapers won the Lifetime Award for Journalism Excellence.
Kelechi Emekalam of Television Continental also won the award for broadcast category.
Other journalists who picked different awards at the event are; Punch Newspaper’s Dumo Eric, awarded for Local Government category while Channels Television’s, Seun Okinbaloye was a runner up in the same category.
Ibanga Wilson Isine of the Premium Times, was a runner-up for online category while Fisayo Soyombo of Flair Nigeria won in that category. Tobore Ovuorie of Premium Times won the award for Women Report category while Olatunji Ololade of The Nation Newspaper and Olukunle Akinrinade emerged winners in the health report category.
For Editorial Cartoon Category, Femi Adedeji of National Mirror won while Kunle Ajayi of Daily Independent Newspaper won the award for the photo category.
