Jail break: Niger Prison Controller Suspended

Abba Moro, the Minister of Interior, has approved the recommendations of Peter Ekpendu, Controller General of Prisons,for the immediate removal and suspension of Musa Maiyaki, the Controller of Prisons, Niger State Command; Mohammed Ibana, the officer-in-Charge, Medium Security Prison, Minna and all other officers on duty on December 6, 2014 when a jail break occurred at the Medium Security Prison, Minna, Niger State.

The officers are to be suspended pending the outcome of an investigation into the jailbreak incident.

A press statement issued by Ope Fatinikun, Public Relations Officer of the service, said the Controller General of Prisons also ordered the immediate transfer of 55 officers and men of the zonal and state headquarters, Minna, in order to beef up security at both Medium Security Prison, and Old Prison, Minna.
