Students of Institutions of higher learning in Osun State have closed the main road in Osogbo, the state capital protesting what they call “anti-masses” policies of Governor Rauf Aregbesola.
They are currently on a peaceful match towards the state secretariat on Gbongan road, though under a heavy security presence. However, This occurence as brought the traffic in Osogbo area to a standstill.
The tertiary institutions students in Osun are protesting “understaffing, throat cut tax payment, pension scam, imposition on the students, hike in tuition fee, non-payment of workers’ salary, incessant industrial strike”.
It appears the police squad that set barricade by the entrance to the state house of assembly are driving them back with tear gas. Hope it will not end tragic, but it is getting rowdy already.
A group of students are banging cars and wanting to order people out into the road may be to partake in the fuse of tear gas. And the tear gas appears to have cleared protesters from the road, except for a student union bus parked blocking three quarters of the road.
