As Edo State recorded additional four deaths on Tuesday, bringing COVID-19 deaths to 26, the state government has  enjoined residents to embrace COVID-19 vaccination in order to reduce the rise in the number of infections and deaths in the state.

Giving an update on the situation in the state at a press conference on Benin, COVIC-19 Case Management Lead, Dr. Osagie Ebonmwonyi, disclosed that three out of the four deaths recorded were unvaccinated victims, while one was partially vaccinated.
Ebomwonyi, who spoke after the daily virtual meeting of the State COVID-19 Taskforce headed by the state governor, Godwin Obaseki, stated that deaths arising from the pandemic were mostly preventable if people would go for  vaccination and obey NCDC guidelines and safety protocols.

According to him the state government had intensified the vaccination of citizens across the state’s 18 local government areas with the provision of mobile medical teams, who moved around to ensure vaccination of all.

He called on all residents to be vaccinated to stay alive and healthy, noting that more unvaccinated persons have continued to die from the virus.

“Edo state has witnessed in the past 24 hours four new deaths, three new recoveries and discharged with 14 news cases detected” , Ebonmwonyi stated.
