Voters had dispersed, happy that they had had a say in who runs Nigeria for the next four years. But by the time they woke up Sunday morning in Ijebu-Jesa in the Ori-Ade local government area of Osun State, they discovered that all that effort had gone to waste. The ballots, all facilities in the local office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC had been consumed in an early morning fire. Nothing was spared.
INEC officials claimed that some hoodlums besieged the office at 3:00 am, shooting and destroying parts of the facilities there including ballot boxes papers and generators. They later set the place ablaze, after they had gained full control.
The account did not indicate the whereabouts of security men when the attack was carried out.
