In a heartfelt message that has stirred deep emotions across social media, Aisha Buhari, wife of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, has called on Nigerians to forgive her husband for any wrongs committed during his time in office.

In a widely shared post by APA Hausa, Aisha Buhari revealed that her husband had long expressed his wish to seek forgiveness from the Nigerian people before his passing.

“Since he resigned from power, the one thing he always told me whenever we spoke was, ‘If I die before you, please send my message to Nigerians to forgive my mistakes in leadership. I’m only human, and humans make mistakes,’” she reportedly said.

The former First Lady emphasised her husband’s remorse and his deep desire for reconciliation, acknowledging the challenges and criticisms that marked his presidency. “Please, I beg everyone to forgive him before he is taken to his grave,” she added.

She further urged Nigerians to help spread the message, saying, “Please everyone should share this message to other groups so that everyone can see. May God forgive him.”

This unexpected appeal has gone viral, triggering a wave of mixed reactions from Nigerians across different platforms — some offering prayers and forgiveness, others reflecting on the impact of Buhari’s leadership.

As the nation reacts, the call for forgiveness adds a new emotional dimension to the legacy of one of Nigeria’s most controversial leaders.
