In a move generating nationwide buzz, former Kano State Governor and ex-APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has been appointed as the Chairman of the Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

The appointment, confirmed by official government sources on Monday, marks Ganduje’s return to a prominent federal position following his resignation as the APC National Chairman amidst political turbulence earlier this year.

Ganduje, a seasoned administrator and two-term governor of Kano State, is expected to bring his leadership experience to bear in the oversight of Nigeria’s airport infrastructure and aviation development strategy. His appointment to FAAN — a critical agency under the Ministry of Aviation responsible for managing and maintaining airports across the country — is already sparking discussions across political and aviation circles.

The Federal Government has yet to release a full list of other board members, but sources close to the presidency say the decision is part of a wider strategy to reposition the aviation sector for improved service delivery, revenue generation, and global competitiveness.

Ganduje’s appointment is seen as both a reward for political loyalty and a test of administrative capability, as he steps into a sector dealing with challenges around airport concessioning, modernization, and customer satisfaction.

Social media has since been buzzing with mixed reactions, with some praising the move as strategic, while others question the trend of appointing former governors to top aviation roles.

More details are expected to emerge in the coming days as the new FAAN board is formally inaugurated.
