Unidentified armed men in the early hours of Tuesday invaded the Abuja residence of the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu.
The attack was described as an assassination attempt by his Special Adviser on Media, Uche Anichukwu. In a statement issued on Tuesday morning, he said: “the Deputy Senate President and his family, had escaped an assassination attempt at about 4 am Tuesday morning.”

He added that the attackers, who could not immediately shoot in order not to attract the attention of the security personnel on duty, took hold of his son, and commanded him to lead them to the Senator’s bedroom.
The security personnel were later alerted by the struggle that occurred in the bedroom of the senator, and a member of the gang was arrested while the others escaped.
This happens to be the second time there would be an attempt on the lawmaker’s life since 2015.
Although Ekweremadu told the Senate that police response was slow when he made a distress call to the authorities, reports indicate that efforts by the police thereafter to get information from the captured assailant had not yielded results as at press time.
Several dangerous weapons and burglary devices were said to have been recovered from the gang member who is now in police custody.[/expander_maker]
