Edo 2020: Oyegun’s Son Canvasses Support for Obaseki

Osazuwa Oyegun, son of immediate past national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and first civilian governor of Edo State, John Odigie-Oyegun, has urged Edo people to return incumbent governor of the state, Godwin Obaseki for a second term in office in 2020 because according to him, “he has done well for the state”.

The young Oyegun who spoke at the tee-off of a golf tournament organised in honour of his father who turn 80 Monday, August 12, thanked Edo State government for the love and support shown to his father and the Oyegun family. He also appreciated God for blessing his father with good health.

State deputy governor, Philip Shaibu, Minister-designate, Osagie Ehanire, and Senator Domingo Obende, led other golfers in the state at the commemorative golf tournament in honour of one of their own.

Addressing journalists at the weekend, the celebrant thanked God for his life, expressing delight that God has kept him alive to celebrate 80 years of age. He described the golf tournament as a great honour to him and one he would remember for long. In his words, “Most of my friends are golfers and they chose to celebrate with me this way.  I thank them all, Benin Club, and the Edo State Government for backing and funding this competition. This is a great honour to me at 80 years.”

Shaibu said Edo State Government chose to celebrate the state’s first civilian governor in recognition of his contributions to national development. According to him “we chose to celebrate Oyegun with this golf tournament because golf is a game of life and friendship. Thank God for his life. As a government, we will continue to tap from his experience.”

Ehanire, immediate past minister of state for health, described the celebrant as a true Edo son who deserved to be celebrated as he had contributed to the development of the state and nation at large.

“We thank God, Benin Club and leaders in Edo State for choosing to celebrate and honour this great man”, Ehanire said.
