Abdul Rasheed Bawa, suspended chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has responded to the invitation of the Directorate of State Security, DSS currently investigating his tenure at the Commission. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had on June 14 suspended Bawa as the Chairman of EFCC) to allow for proper investigation into his conduct while in office.

In a release issued by Willie Bassey, Director, Information, in the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Bawa was suspended following some weighty allegations of abuse of office leveled against him. He was, therefore, directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Director, Operations in the Commission, who will oversee the affairs of the Office of the Chairman of the Commission pending the conclusion of the investigation.
The law establishing the Commission empowers the president to suspend the chief executive who is appointed by him and confirmed by the Senate, in the event that there are reports of unwholesome acts.
Bawa was appointed in 2021, when his predecessor, Ibrahim Magu, came under investigation, also for abuse of office. The report was, however, never made public. Magu was later promoted and discharged from the police.
